Reviews (More reviews can be found on individual pages in the Filmography):
The
Austin American Statesman, February 1, 2001
Description: Review of ER. Quote: "The sole bright spot this season has
been Maura Tierney's med student Abby Lockhart. The melodrama she's been
burdened with -- alcoholism, jerky ex-husband, sullen boyfriend, mom used
to be TV's Gidget -- isn't very promising, but Tierney is one of those low-key
beauties a TV audience immediately bonds with. It's not hard to read her
chronic dyspepsia as fellow feeling; she, too, is disappointed to have joined
this legendary show just as it turned into 'St. Nowhere.' "
TV Guide
(US edition), November 25, 2000
Description: Within the "Roush Review" of ABC's Gideon's Crossing, Matt
Roush says: "Meanwhile, NBC’s top-rated ER is showing new creative vigor,
spurred by Maura Tierney’s fine work as the complex Abby Lockhart: divorced,
alcoholic, insecure and broke. She is valiantly filling the void left by
Julianna Margulies. Now in its seventh year, ER remains the epitome of appointment
TV."
Entertainment
Weekly, November 24, 2000
Description: Reviews of ER and Gideon's Crossing, with particularly glowing
remarks for Maura Tierney. Quote: "...the main reason to tune in to ER this
season is to see the full-blooded character Maura Tierney is creating with
scant help from the writers..."
TV Guide Online, November
16, 2000 (online only)
Description: Critic Matt Roush reviews the day's television, with particular
praise for Maura's performance on ER. Quote: "Tierney's bravely unsentimental
response to her mother's arrival makes for fine drama..."

The
Flick Filosopher.com, November 1999 (online only)
Description: A very positive review of Oxygen, with remarks on The
Bone Collector as well. Quote: "...Tierney is convincing as a woman
so self-destructive and full of self-hatred that, in one disquieting scene,
she can barely look at herself in a mirror."
The Village
Voice, November 10, 1999
Description: A brief, positive review of Oxygen, along with remarks
on a few other films. Quote: "[Oxygen] benefits from an excellent
cast: Terry Kinney, James Naughton, and particularly Maura Tierney as a
detective whose deep masochism makes her a doppelgänger for the kidnapper."

Description: A rave review of NewsRadio. Enough said.

An interesting Maura-related tale: "Hollywood Must Be Destroyed!," Daniel
Schroder's first novel, came close to featuring Maura Tierney on the cover...
As it goes, Mr. Schroder requested that the cover picture a man and woman
resembling Tom Selleck and Maura Tierney. The picture files turned up an
actual photo of Maura, and he was assured it could be used, although it
was decided later on that it would be safer not to. If anybody is interested
in reading "Hollywood Must Be Destroyed!" (though Maura is absent from the
cover), you can order a copy from Amazon.com.
